The Quilting Hen

Situated halfway between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks is Montana's Golden Triangle wheat belt, where some of the best wheat in the nation is grown. On a working grain farm in this area sits The Quilting Hen, quilt store. Owners Diane and Gary Arganbright built the 2500 square foot store from the ground up, right on top of their former garden, no more hoeing the garden. Never considering the fact they were 25 minutes from the nearest city, and as some customers suggested, in the middle of nowhere. As it turned out, a lot of our customers travel 1-3 hours to the store. It has become a destination quilt store.

One mile off Highway 87 customers enjoy a relaxed atmosphere away from city pressures. Husbands are often seen relaxing out front, keeping an eye on the free-range chickens and peacocks, and discussing the crops and the weather. Inside, the ladies enjoy a fabric selection of 3,500 plus bolts of the most unusual and unique fabrics in the state, for every taste and mood. Along with books, notions and patterns, which include 28 of Diane's own design. The store has been featured in numerous magazines and publications, the last being Country Woman and it has a web site that offers nearly everything available at the store, all with a secure shopping cart.

Our goal is to provide each customer with a relaxed and friendly adventure that they will always remember, whether they need a spool of thread, fabric for an entire quilt, or they are just looking, they each receive the same attentive care they should expect. While our inventory focuses on quilting items, we also are Montana's largest PFAFF Sewing Machine Dealer.

With Sun Pure fluorescent lighting, you can see nearly everything at a glance. We laid out our floor plan so all of the fabric would be on 3-tiered shelving on the walls and not blocking the center floor areas. You can find and compare your fabric at a glance. We have a cutting table with 3 stations to expedite your checkout. We have a spacious classroom that will accommodate 12 students with ease. Classes of all types are held 3-4 times each week.

We have flannels, batiks, brights, solids, 30's, nautical, African…and they're all here waiting for you. We also have a few antiques including Metlox Poultry and California dinnerware; plates and dinner serving pieces. We have an extensive collection of Poultry theme dishes.
