Highwood BarThe hand-carved oak back bar, circa 1900, is an attraction for those touring the small town bars famous for their back bars. Highwood is located on the 'back road' from Great Falls to Fort Benton which takes you through the rolling wheat fields and sprawling cattle ranches along the foothills of the Highwood Mountains. Although the state map describes Highway 228 as mostly gravel, it has been totally paved for years and is well maintained all year. Highwood and the Highwood Bar are a perfect representation of what Montana natives refer to as 'the real Montana.' Activities

Directions
The Highwood Bar is located at the edge of the Highwood Mountains approximately 27 miles northeast of Great Falls. We are at mile marker 23 on Highway 228, which begins three miles east of Great Falls off Highway 87 East and ends in Fort Benton. Highwood is about 18 miles south of Fort Benton the birthplace of Montana on the beautiful Missouri River.
