A park ranger will present a short program interpreting the history of the waterfalls in the Ryan Island picnic area. Maps and brochures will be available and all questions will be answered. No fee. The program will take place on Ryan Island which is located below Ryan Dam and the Great Falls of the Missouri River. Use caution when crossing the swinging bridge to get to the island.

Dress appropriately for the weather. If the weather does not cooperate, we will cancel the interpretive hour at the Great Falls of the Missouri River.

Driving Directions

Interpretation at the Great Falls of the Missouri River will take place below Ryan Dam where Ryan Island sits below the Great Falls. To get to Ryan Island, take Highway 87 North out of the town of Great Falls and proceed approximately 3 miles until you see a brown sign with Ryan Dam and Morony Dam highlighted on it. Take a right onto Marony Dam Road. When you get to the fork in the road, take another right and follow the road as it will come to a dead end at Ryan Island.
